A Guide to Fragrances

How to choose a Fragrance?

When looking for a new perfume or aftershave it can prove challenging to find that unique scent that compliments your own style. Heres a few simple steps to make this process as easy as possible;

Browse Online

Have a look at an online store such as Amazon to see what products are on the market. Look at the product descriptions and see what types of scent appeal to you, also read the reviews and see what real customers think of these fragrances. Once you've whittled the options down to a small group, take note of these fragrances and also what they include - e.g what do their blends consisted of or what type of notes they have.  Take your findings with you to a shop so you can pick out the same or similar products.

Shops

Now you have an idea of the sort of fragrance you're looking for, visit two or three stores and see what they have in stock. Make sure to smell each fragrance without getting any on your skin. Spray one in the air and let it disperse before you give it a smell.

Wait a minute for the previous scent to disappear before spraying the next one. Once you've sampled all the fragrances available leave the shop, go for lunch or a coffee - this is an important step because you need time to think about the fragrances out of an environment riddled with hundreds of different smells.

Whittle down your choices to three or four fragrances. Go back to the shops and spray these on to a taster card. Take these taster cards with you and leave the store. Spend the rest of the day smelling how these fragrances develop over the course of the day.  At the end of the day see which fragrance you like the smell of best. This is an important step because there is no point buying a fragrance which doesn't last throughout the day. Purchase whichever scent is your favourite.

When to spray yourself with fragrance?

Once you get out of the shower spray yourself with your fragrance before getting dressed. Your skin's moisture will help lock in the scent. Make sure to never rub your skin once you've sprayed your fragrance as this will break down the scent.

Where to Spray yourself?

To help ensure your scent lasts longer, use Vaseline and an Unscented Moisturiser. By placing Vaseline on your pulse points before spraying your fragrance on top, your scent will last a lot longer than if you just sprayed on your skin. The same happens with an Unscented Moisturiser.
